Syilx Salmon Feast returns to Okanagan Falls
The Okanagan Nation Alliance will host the annual Salmon Feast from September 18 to 20 in Okanagan Falls. The event celebrates the return of sc’win (Okanagan Sockeye Salmon) to Syilx territory and honors one of the Four Food Chiefs of the Syilx people.
The ceremony takes place at sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ (Okanagan Falls), a location that serves as a traditional fishing camp, trading site, and gathering place for the Syilx people.
The three-day celebration includes a traditional stick game tournament, a huckleberry pancake breakfast, a canoe departure from Skaha Lake, and a run/walk. Other activities feature arts, crafts, bingo, live music, and children's activities, concluding with the official salmon feast and ceremonies on Sunday.
