Sylt faces high costs in real estate and dining

The German island of Sylt continues to be characterized by high costs and unique real estate opportunities. A nearly 29,000 square meter plot of land in the Morsum district is set for auction by Deutsche Grundstücksauktionen AG with a minimum bid of only 49,000 euros. However, the low price is due to strict restrictions: the land is a sensitive agricultural salt marsh where no buildings may be constructed.

In addition to real estate, the cost of dining on the island remains high. Main courses in local restaurants frequently reach or exceed the 45-euro mark, with items such as lamb or steak priced between 45 and 50 euros, and certain seafood dishes reaching 72 euros. These prices are attributed to high logistics costs, staffing, and rent, as well as the high demand from tourists willing to pay for the island's atmosphere.
