Sylt hosts California Wingfoil Masters as flight demand stays high

The California Wingfoil Masters will take place on Sylt from 4 to 9 August 2026, with the German Wingfoil Championships in the wave and slalom disciplines held on the Brandenburger Strand in Westerland. The event combines three disciplines – wave, slalom and freestyle – and offers free entry, a festival programme with Volkswagen vans on display, pop‑up stores, yoga sessions, live music and evening DJ sets.

Sylt Airport (IATA GWT) continues to see strong passenger numbers, offering short‑haul flights of under 90 minutes from German cities such as Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart, as well as international services from Zurich and Vienna. Eurowings, Lufthansa and other carriers operate the routes, and the airport has a high share of business‑jet traffic. A separate passenger fee has been the subject of political debate, but the overall demand for air travel to the island remains robust.
