Sylt punk protest camp concludes after four weeks

The punk protest camp on the island of Sylt has officially concluded after approximately four weeks. Organized by the group ‘Aktion Sylt’ under the motto ‘Normalize Revolution’, the event drew participants from across Germany to express criticism of capitalism and promote solidarity.

At its peak, the camp consisted of approximately 80 tents located on the Festwiese in Tinnum, near the airport, with up to 300 participants staying in more than 200 tents. Organizers noted that the camp relied heavily on participant self-responsibility, particularly regarding waste disposal and communal tasks like a daily kitchen team that provided meals funded by donations.

Key highlights of the gathering included a ‘Radical Pride’ demonstration involving roughly 100 people. Despite the organized nature of the camp, organizers reported that some participants faced disruptions, such as individuals throwing firecrackers into the camp at night.
