Sylt shuttle services resume following storm disruptions
Automobile train services to the German island of Sylt are expected to resume on Monday following a suspension caused by severe storm warnings. High wind speeds, reaching up to 120 kilometers per hour, forced both the Deutsche Bahn Sylt Shuttle and the RDC car train to halt operations on Sunday for safety reasons.
While regular service is scheduled to restart early Monday morning, restrictions may apply until 6:00 AM due to forecasted wind speeds of up to force 10. During this period, certain vehicle types—including camping vehicles, cars with trailers, trucks with empty trailers, motorcycles, and dangerous goods transports—may be prohibited from travel. Full service for all vehicle types is anticipated after 6:00 AM.
Travelers to Sylt, one of Germany’s most expensive destinations, can access the island via train, the Hindenburgdamm car train, or a ferry from Denmark. Cost-saving measures for the car train include booking online in advance, as spontaneous terminal prices are significantly higher than pre-booked savings tickets.
