Sylvan Esso returns to Spotify after year-long boycott

The electro-folk duo Sylvan Esso has announced the return of their music catalog to Spotify after a year-long boycott. The band originally removed their music in September 2025 to protest Spotify founder Daniel Ek’s investment in the German defense technology company Helsing, stating they could not support a platform that “directly funds war machines.”

Singer Amelia Meath explained the reversal in a video, noting that the financial impact of the boycott became unsustainable. Meath stated that the duo needs the platform's revenue to continue employing their staff. She emphasized that the band’s political views have not changed, expressing frustration with the necessity of the decision.

The return follows the September 11 release of their fifth album, “Ow ∞”, via their own label, Psychic Hotline. While their music is back on Spotify, the band continues to encourage fans to support them through alternative platforms such as Bandcamp, Qobuz, and local record stores.
