Sylvan Lake Flags of Remembrance honors Canadian veterans

Veterans Voices of Canada held its 12th annual Flags of Remembrance ceremony on September 19 near Sylvan Lake. Approximately 300 flags have been placed along Highway 11 to honor Canadian military members and first responders who were killed or are listed as missing in action.

There are 128 flags positioned on each side of the highway, representing 128,000 Canadians. Each flagpole features a plaque of honor bearing the name of a past or present military member or first responder. The display is intended to serve as a daily visual reminder of sacrifice for the estimated 25,000 people who drive past the site each day. The flags will remain on display until November 12.
