Sylvester Stallone reveals struggle with bulimia and steroid use

Sylvester Stallone has revealed the physical and mental toll of maintaining his iconic physique for the ‘Rocky’ and ‘Rambo’ franchises. In an interview with The New York Times, the 80-year-old actor disclosed that his obsession with his appearance during the 1980s led to the development of bulimia and the use of steroids.

Stallone described his body as a ‘armor’ and explained that his fitness goals shifted from the lean look of the original Rocky to a more ‘animalistic’ and ‘jaguar-like’ physique for Rambo. He noted that during the filming of ‘Rocky III’, his body fat dropped to 2.6%, a level of leanness that made it impossible for him to keep food down.

He admitted to using chemical enhancements to achieve these results, stating that ‘nobody achieves this without supplements or chemistry.’ The actor reflected on how this intense preoccupation with his physical form became a serious obsession during the height of his fame.
