Sylvester Stallone releases memoir detailing rise to fame

Actor Sylvester Stallone is releasing a new memoir titled ‘The Steps’ (Los escalones), which chronicles his difficult journey to stardom. The book details his early life struggles, including a childhood marked by a facial nerve injury caused by medical forceps during birth, which resulted in a permanent facial asymmetry and speech impediments. Stallone describes a turbulent upbringing involving unstable parental relationships and time spent in various boarding institutions.

Before his success with the ‘Rocky’ franchise, Stallone faced extreme poverty, including sleeping at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan and working various odd jobs such as cleaning lion cages at the Central Park Zoo and working in a fish market. The memoir also touches upon his professional persistence, specifically his refusal to sell the rights to the ‘Rocky’ script to other actors.

In a separate reflection, Stallone expressed long-standing regret over declining a 1976 invitation from Elvis Presley to visit his home in Tennessee and watch ‘Rocky’ privately. Stallone admitted he was too intimidated by the music legend to attend the meeting, an opportunity he missed shortly before Presley’s death in 1977.
