SYNAFOC challenges FECAFOOT over new minimum player salaries

The Cameroonian football players' union, SYNAFOC, is challenging a recent circular issued by FECAFOOT regarding salary minimums and engagement fees for the 2026-2027 season.

SYNAFOC argues that the established monthly minimum wage of 75,000 FCFA is insufficient for professional footballers and fails to meet the basic needs and dignity of the status. The union contends that this level of economic precariousness could undermine the integrity and credibility of national competitions.

Beyond financial concerns, SYNAFOC denounces the unilateral nature of the decision, claiming FECAFOOT failed to engage in the mandatory social dialogue required by recent agreements between FIFA and FIFPRO. The union also expressed prior concerns regarding player health, specifically citing a tournament schedule that allowed only 48 hours between matches. SYNAFOC has threatened to escalate the matter to FIFA and FIFPRO to protect its members' interests.
