SYNAFOC reelection contested in Cameroonian court
Joslain Leonel Mayebi, a former Cameroonian international footballer and long-time member of the National Union of Cameroonian Footballers (SYNAFOC), has initiated legal action to contest the reelection of Geremi Njitap.
Mayebi and several regional delegates are seeking the annulment of the elective General Assembly held on September 2, 2026, in Douala, which resulted in Njitap being reappointed for a four-year term. The legal challenge, involving the firm AKKUM & Associates LLP, alleges various irregularities, including the exclusion of certain delegates and the prevention of Mayebi from presenting his own candidacy despite having paid his dues.
Beyond the election process, critics have raised concerns regarding the financial management of SYNAFOC under Njitap’s leadership since 2016. Allegations include a lack of transparency regarding funds received from FIFPRO and the failure to maintain the union's assets, such as its building. Njitap and outgoing official Daniel Blaise Ngos are named in the proceedings, with Mayebi questioning their authority to convene the assembly.
