SYNAPGREF announces two-week strike in Chad

The National Union of Court Clerk Personnel (SYNAPGREF) has announced a two-week strike scheduled from August 31 to September 15, 2026. The decision was reached during an extraordinary general assembly at the N’Djamena Court of Appeal.

The union is demanding progress on draft decrees regarding the revaluation of clerk allowances and the establishment of an annual performance bonus. SYNAPGREF representatives stated that despite an official request for a meeting with the Minister of Justice on June 9, 2026, no response has been received. The union is calling for the immediate convening of the inter-ministerial commission responsible for these decrees.

Additionally, the union is protesting circular notes issued by the President of the N’Djamena High Court. These notes require clerks to transcribe specific tribunal compositions and restore hearing notes for transmission to the prosecutor's office. SYNAPGREF has characterized these administrative requirements as “abuses of authority and power” that disregard professional practices.
