Synhelion to build large-scale synthetic fuel plant in Morocco

Swiss renewable energy company Synhelion has signed a memorandum of understanding with Moroccan ministries and the Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AMDIE) to develop a large-scale synthetic fuel plant. Located in the Tan-Tan province within the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, the facility aims for an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons.

The project will utilize renewable heat, water, and carbon to produce renewable kerosene, diesel, and gasoline. These synthetic fuels are designed to be compatible with existing aviation and automotive engines without requiring infrastructure modifications. The technology aims to reduce net CO2 emissions by up to 100% compared to conventional fossil fuels.

If completed, this would represent Synhelion’s largest announced project by production capacity, significantly scaling up from its smaller demonstration facilities in Germany. While the investment costs, financing, and construction timeline have not been disclosed, the Moroccan government has already reserved land for the site.
