Synology launches DiskStation neo+ NAS series with Non-ECC RAM
Synology has introduced the DiskStation neo+ series, a new line of Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices designed to provide a more affordable entry point into its ecosystem. The series includes four models: the DS725neo+ (2 bays), DS925neo+ (4 bays), DS1525neo+ (5 bays), and DS1825neo+ (8 bays).
The primary distinction of the neo+ line is its memory configuration. The name “neo” stands for “Non-ECC Option,” as these units ship with 4 GB of standard Non-ECC DDR4 RAM rather than the Error Correction Code (ECC) memory found in the standard Plus series. Synology stated this decision is a response to current conditions in the memory market.
While the neo+ models use non-ECC RAM out of the box, they run on the same software platform as the Plus series, including DSM, Synology Drive, and Surveillance Station. Users have the option to upgrade the memory up to 32 GB, and while ECC modules are compatible, mixing ECC and Non-ECC modules is not officially supported. The DS1525neo+ and DS1825neo+ also feature a PCIe slot for optional 10 or 25-GbE network cards. The neo+ series is intended to complement, rather than replace, the existing Plus series.
