Synology releases ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 for hybrid IT

Synology has launched ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 (APM 2.0), an update to its data protection platform designed to manage fragmented hybrid IT environments. The software expands support for various cloud and virtualization platforms, including Amazon EC2, Microsoft Azure VM, Proxmox VE, Nutanix AHV, and Google Workspace.

A major feature of the update is cross-platform recovery, which enables organizations to back up workloads in one environment and restore them in another, facilitating both disaster recovery and workload migration. Additionally, the update adds Azure Blob Storage as a supported destination for backup and tiering, and expands the range of Synology NAS models compatible with ActiveProtect Vault.

To enhance security, APM 2.0 introduces software-based volume-level storage encryption for data at rest. Synology also indicated that future updates are planned to incorporate AI-driven threat mitigation capabilities.
