University of Louisville field hockey defeats Virginia in shootout

The No. 18 University of Louisville field hockey team secured a 1-0 victory over No. 15 Virginia in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup. Following a scoreless regulation and a 15-minute sudden-victory overtime period, the game proceeded to a shootout.

Louisville goalkeeper Emily Young was instrumental in the win, recording eight saves during the match, including six during overtime and two during the shootout. The Cardinals successfully converted all four of their shootout attempts while stopping two of Virginia’s attempts to clinch the win.

With this result, Louisville improves to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in ACC play, while Virginia falls to 8-6 (3-5 ACC).
