Syracuse basketball begins Gerry McNamara era
Syracuse University men's basketball is set to begin its season on Monday, Nov. 2, at the JMA Wireless Dome against New Haven. The program enters a new chapter under head coach Gerry McNamara, a former star guard who contributed to the school's 2003 NCAA Tournament title.
The Orange backcourt features a mix of returning talent and new additions. Sophomore guard Kiyan Anthony, the team's top returning scorer, is expected to take on a larger role following an inconsistent freshman campaign. McNamara has emphasized the need to integrate Anthony into the offensive system.
Other key players in the crowded backcourt include junior Gavin Doty, freshman Ryan Moesch, and senior transfer Garwey Dual. The roster also features Aiden Tobiason, a junior transfer from Temple who averaged 15 points per game last season. McNamara's strategy appears to focus on depth and positional versatility as the team seeks to return to the NCAA Tournament after a 15-17 season.
