Syracuse Pride Day connects queer and Indigenous communities

Syracuse’s queer and Indigenous communities gathered at the Skä•noñh Great Law Center for Pride Day on September 19. The event focused on connecting the LGBTQ+ and Haudenosaunee communities through music, conversation, and a traditional community meal.

The gathering served as a fundraiser for the 2Spirit Sanctuary Coalition. Founded by Shawn Shenandoah, the coalition aims to build community for 2Spirit individuals—those who identify as both Indigenous and queer—in response to the unique challenges faced by members of both groups.
