Syria and Turkey deny secret Hezbollah talks in Turkey

Syria and Turkey have both denied reports that Syrian government officials held secret, direct talks with Hezbollah in Turkey during September 2026. The denials come in response to reporting by Reuters, which cited six anonymous sources—including Syrian and American officials—claiming the meeting was brokered by Turkish intelligence to de-escalate regional tensions.

According to the reports, the discussions focused on security issues. It was alleged that Syria assured Hezbollah it would not intervene militarily in Lebanon to disarm the group, while Syrian officials requested Hezbollah’s assistance in stopping cross-border weapons smuggling and dismantling cells in southern Syria.

Syria’s Ministry of Information stated on social media that the claims are “false” and that no such meeting occurred. Similarly, Turkey’s Presidency Directorate of Communications labeled the reports as “baseless” and “pure imagination,” asserting that the details regarding the date, location, and content of the alleged meeting do not reflect reality.
