Syria and Iraq discuss strengthening judicial cooperation

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa received the President of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zaidan, in Damascus to discuss strengthening judicial and legal cooperation between Syria and Iraq.

The high-level visit included discussions between Zaidan and Syrian Justice Minister Mazhar al-Wais regarding the development of coordination between justice institutions and the exchange of expertise. Syrian officials expressed hope that recent developments in economic and security relations would drive further legal collaboration.

A key focus of the talks involved the legal status of Syrian detainees transferred from the Al-Hol camp to Iraq. Both sides discussed the potential formation of joint judicial committees to manage these files and trials, as well as the preparation of judicial memorandums of understanding to facilitate information exchange.
