Syria advances regional transport links with Lebanon and Saudi Arabia

Syria is advancing regional connectivity through new agreements with Lebanon and Saudi Arabia focused on transport and logistics.

In discussions with Lebanon, officials from both countries agreed on a unified plan to revive the railway network connecting the two nations. This includes a joint technical team to oversee projects such as linking the Port of Tripoli to the Syrian rail network, aiming to create a corridor reaching Iraq, the Gulf, and Turkey. The Al-Aboudiya border crossing is expected to resume operations shortly.

Simultaneously, Syria and Saudi Arabia signed two memoranda of understanding in Damascus regarding road and railway cooperation. Syrian Transport Minister Yarub Badr and Saudi Minister Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser aim to transform Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia into a vital land bridge for goods and passengers traveling from Europe to the Arabian Gulf. These agreements focus on technical expertise exchange, infrastructure rehabilitation, and digitalizing transport systems.

Economic discussions between Syrian and Saudi business councils also highlighted potential investments in ports, free zones, and logistics. Efforts are underway to facilitate smoother customs procedures and improve the movement of trucks and transit goods to boost regional trade.
