Syria and Qatar discuss military and security cooperation

Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra met with Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha to discuss regional and international developments. The talks focused on enhancing bilateral military and security cooperation, including training, military qualifications, and defense industries.

During the visit, the Syrian Defense Minister also visited the headquarters of the Qatari Special Forces to explore ways to exchange expertise. The meeting follows a series of communications between the two nations aimed at developing Syrian military capabilities and utilizing modern technologies.

Beyond defense, discussions touched upon economic and investment cooperation. The Syrian side highlighted a promising investment environment for joint projects and the facilitation of trade and investment flows. This diplomatic engagement follows a period of rapprochement between Damascus and Doha following the transition of power in Syria in December 2024.
