Syria and Saudi Arabia discuss food security project in Hama
The Syrian Investment Authority and the Saudi Ambassador to Syria met in Damascus to discuss a proposed food security megaproject in the Hama governorate. The proposal covers the entire production chain, including agriculture, manufacturing, canning, packaging, and export logistics.
Officials explored potential financing and operational oversight through the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF). The discussions also touched upon strengthening ties with the Saudi Ministry of Investment and following up on previous agreements with the Saudi Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing. Saudi Ambassador Ghazi Al-Anzi indicated that Riyadh is considering opening a dedicated Saudi commercial or investment office within its embassy in Damascus.
This meeting follows recent discussions between Syria and Saudi Arabia regarding investment and finance. Earlier this month, the Saudi Fund for Development reportedly approved $406 million in soft loans for the first phase of six projects in Syria, though the Syrian Ministry of Finance has not yet signed the agreement.
