Syria arrests Ali Kayali for revolution-era massacres
Syrian authorities have announced the arrest of Ali Kayali, also known as Mirac Oral, a key figure accused of orchestrating massacres during the Syrian revolution. According to the official Sana news agency, general intelligence services captured Kayali while he was attempting to flee across the border.
Kayali reportedly led an armed militia that supported the former regime's forces. He is linked to several major massacres, including the 2013 killings in Al-Bayda and Ras al-Naba in Baniyas. The Syrian Network for Human Rights reports that the Al-Bayda massacre resulted in 264 civilian deaths, while the Ras al-Naba massacre claimed 195 lives. Witnesses described summary executions and the burning of homes and bodies.
Additionally, Kayali is identified as a primary suspect in the 2013 Reyhanli terrorist attacks in Turkey, which killed 52 people. Presidential media advisor Ahmed Muwaffaq Zaidan stated that the pursuit of those responsible for crimes against Syrians will continue without exception.
