Syria arrests former General Jabir Muhriz Ibrahim for alleged war crimes
Syrian Internal Security Forces have arrested former Brigadier General Jabir Muhriz Ibrahim, the former commander of the 138th Air Defense Brigade, as part of an investigation into human rights violations committed during the previous regime.
Ibrahim is accused of overseeing systematic violence in the eastern countryside of Dera, specifically in the Sayda area. Key allegations include issuing direct orders to kill and arrest protesters, targeting residential buildings, and participating in military operations against civilians. He is specifically linked to the Sayda massacre, where approximately 120 civilians were killed, and the death of 13-year-old Hamza al-Khatib, who died following torture.
Authorities stated that the arrest follows a period of tracking and is part of a broader effort to bring former regime officials to justice. The case has been referred to judicial authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.
