Syria arrests Yahya al-Assad and former regime officials

Syrian authorities have arrested Yahya al-Assad, a cousin of former president Bashar al-Assad, along with several high-ranking military and security officials during security operations in Homs.

According to the Syrian Ministry of Interior, the detainees held significant positions within the previous administration, including leadership roles in Air Intelligence, the Republican Guard, and Air Defense. Notable detainees include Major General Mohammad Deeb Afouf, former commander of the 24th Division, and several investigators from the Air Intelligence Directorate.

The arrests are part of a broader campaign targeting former officials suspected of involvement in human rights violations and crimes committed during the Syrian conflict. Among those detained is Kamil Mohammad Sharif, who is allegedly linked to the 2013 Al-Tadamon massacre in the Yarmouk camp. The ministry noted that these individuals occupied military, security, and judicial roles under the former regime.
