Syria Central Bank issues warnings to 755 unlicensed businesses

The Central Bank of Syria has issued 755 warnings to shops and offices conducting currency exchange and money transfer activities without proper licensing. These warnings were issued following field inspection tours conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Interior.

The inspections targeted various commercial shops and internal money transfer offices to ensure compliance with legal regulations. The central bank identified instances where exchange services were being practiced without licenses and noted other violations that are subject to legal follow-up.

According to the bank, these measures are intended to protect consumer rights and mitigate risks such as fraud, the use of counterfeit currency, and the receipt of incomplete payment amounts. The bank also aims to prevent unlicensed activities from being used for illicit financial operations. The enforcement actions spanned several governorates, including Damascus, Rural Damascus, Aleppo, Latakia, Tartus, Homs, Hama, Daraa, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Idlib.
