Syria condemns Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz's entry into its territory

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement condemning the entry of Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz into southern Syrian territory. Damascus described the visit to the buffer zone as an illegal incursion and a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Syria asserted that Katz's actions constitute a provocation and a breach of international law, the United Nations Charter, and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. The ministry called on the international community to intervene and compel Israeli forces to withdraw from occupied Syrian lands and return to the established disengagement lines.

During his visit, which included a stop at Mount Hermon, Israel Katz stated that the Israeli military would not vacate the security zone as long as jihadist threats to Israel persist. He addressed Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, stating that the presence of the Israeli army serves to protect Israel's borders and towns.
