Syria condemns Israeli military construction in Quneitra

Syria has condemned Israeli military construction and excavation work in the southern Quneitra countryside, labeling the ‘Sufa 53 Line’ project a violation of international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. The project, also referred to as ‘Great Storm,’ involves the creation of a fortified military route, including an eight-meter-wide road, earth berms up to five meters high, and a network of observation posts along the separation line.

Reports indicate that Israeli forces have advanced between 300 and 1,000 meters beyond the ceasefire line in certain sectors. The construction activities, which reportedly intensified following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad government in December 2024, have impacted approximately 1,020 hectares of agricultural and grazing land.

Syrian authorities have called on the international community to take deterrent measures to uphold state sovereignty and prevent further incursions. While Damascus demands a full withdrawal to the terms of the 1974 agreement, Israel maintains that its operations are necessary for security purposes.
