Abu Zuhur Airbase: Israel conducts airstrikes in Syria amid tensions with Turkey FAST-MOVING

Israel conducted airstrikes against the Abu Zuhur Military Airbase in Idlib, Syria, targeting its runway and hangars with at least eight bombs. The strike has triggered a diplomatic confrontation between Israel, Syria, and Turkey.

Syrian Foreign Minister Esad Hasan Sheibani stated that the attack was unjustified and lacked legitimacy. He denied claims of a Turkish military presence at the base, asserting that the facility was largely empty and undergoing repairs to restore infrastructure damaged during the civil war. Sheibani clarified that while Turkish officials had visited the base recently, the visit was part of routine military cooperation and expertise sharing, not an attempt to establish a permanent Turkish presence.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the action, characterizing it as a message to Turkey. He stated that Israel would not tolerate Turkish military fortifications moving southward toward the border. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz further criticized President Erdoğan, accusing him of dragging Turkey into dangerous adventures in Syria. Turkey has condemned the strike, calling it an illegal violation of Syrian sovereignty.
