Syria implements new university fee caps and currency fluctuations

The Syrian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has established new maximum price caps for credit hour fees at private universities. These caps, intended to balance institutional stability with the living conditions of students, range from 4,000 to 13,000 new Syrian pounds depending on the field of study. Specifically, human medicine is capped at 13,000, dentistry at 12,000, pharmacy at 11,000, engineering at 9,000, other specialties at 6,000, and institutes at 4,000. These regulations apply to Syrian students and their equivalents, but do not include students admitted under Arab or foreign student systems.

In the financial sector, the Syrian pound has seen a slight decline against the US dollar. In the market, the selling rate for the US dollar reached 140.50 new Syrian pounds, while the purchase rate was 139.75. This represents a significant gap compared to the official Central Bank of Syria rates, which are set at 122.50 for selling and 121.50 for buying. The Euro also shows a discrepancy between market rates and official rates, with market selling prices reaching 157.90 new Syrian pounds.
