Syria launches judicial probe into murder of child Nur al‑Dous

Syria’s Ministry of Justice announced the creation of an urgent inspection committee to review all judicial and executive actions related to the killing of 5‑year‑old Nur al‑Dous in the Daraa countryside. The committee visited the family’s home, examined prior custody decisions and pledged to hold any officials responsible for procedural failures accountable.

The Internal Security Directorate in the town of Nawa identified the child’s uncle as the primary suspect, who confessed to the murder. The father and a second uncle were also detained on suspicion of covering up the crime and helping to hide the body. A forensic report confirmed that Nur died from severe blunt‑force injuries. Because one of the suspects is employed by the Ministry of Defense, the case was transferred to the military public prosecutor, Abdul Majid Badawa. All three detainees have been referred to the appropriate courts for trial.
