Syria migrates .sy national domain registry to local software
Syria’s National Authority for Information Technology Services has completed the transition of the .sy national domain registry to new software developed by local specialists. The move replaces a system that had been unsupported since 2017, thereby reducing technical risks.
The new system supports the Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP), allowing accredited registrars to connect their systems to the platform to manage domains and associated data. It also provides improved access to registration information through RDAP and WHOIS services.
Shahada al-Ibrahim, the authority’s director general, stated that utilizing Syrian expertise highlights the importance of investing in national capabilities to build and manage digital infrastructure. The authority is now preparing for the next phase, which involves implementing DNSSEC technology to add an additional layer of protection to the domain name services.
