Syria Ministry of Transport seeks to unify freight truck regulation
The Directorate of Freight Transport Regulation at the Syrian Ministry of Transport is working to unify the operations of 'turn offices' responsible for organizing truck queues and freight movement. In meetings held in Damascus, officials discussed implementing a unified mechanism and digital transformation to improve administrative efficiency, reduce procedural discrepancies between offices, and accelerate transactions.
Key discussions included regulating the distribution of loads, addressing violations, and ensuring fairness among carriers. Proposals were reviewed to separate queues based on vehicle type and to manage the use of special receipts to prevent bypassing the established rotation system. The meetings also addressed the challenges of transporting goods from facilities located far from turn offices and the complexities of transferring certain public sector goods to the private sector.
These efforts follow a series of consultations with Syrian and Lebanese truck owner associations, provincial associations, and driver representatives to address operational and administrative difficulties within the sector. No new freight tariffs or specific dates for a new unified system were announced during these sessions.
