Syria processes over 7,000 international trademark transactions

Syria’s Directorate of Commercial Property Protection, under the Ministry of Industry and Internal Trade, has completed 7,171 requests and procedures related to international trademarks from the beginning of the year through early October.

According to Mohammad Anan, Head of the International Marks and Treaties Department, the workload included approximately 1,100 requests for registering international trademarks from outside Syria, 1,400 trademark renewals, and 4,671 instances of ownership transfers or changes to owner names and addresses.

The department facilitates international registration for Syrian merchants and investors from within the country, removing the need for travel. It also processes applications to protect foreign trademarks within the Syrian market.

To modernize services, the Directorate is preparing to launch an electronic trademark registration system. The system is currently in a testing phase and is approximately 80% complete. These procedures are supported by the Madrid System, which allows trademark owners to submit a single international application to protect marks in multiple member countries.
