Syria: Security ties with Gulf states and Jordan discussed

Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Assad Hassan al-Shaibani stated at the Manama Dialogue conference that the security and stability of Gulf nations are inseparable from Syria's own security. He noted that ongoing discussions are taking place at political, economic, security, and military levels, positioning Syria as a reliable partner for Gulf states following the events of December 8, 2024.

Al-Shaibani mentioned that consultations are underway regarding Syria's potential participation in a regional security and defense system with Gulf countries, referencing the “Mecca Pact” or similar frameworks.

Regarding recent tensions with Jordan, the Minister addressed Jordanian airstrikes in Daraa, stating that the issue was resolved through intensive communications. He emphasized that the Jordanian leadership showed understanding to address disagreements and ensure the rights of Syrians are protected. He further clarified that recent border developments with Jordan are not a new agreement but rather an enhancement of coordination mechanisms to ensure mutual border security and respect for sovereignty.
