Syria seeks Turkish investment for post-war reconstruction

Ali Alhamad, Public Relations Manager for the Industrial and Crafts Zones Directorate of the Syrian Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, has expressed interest in attracting Turkish investment to support Syria's post-war reconstruction. Speaking at the MÜSİAD EXPO 2026 in Istanbul, Alhamad noted that the previous Baas regime had implemented various restrictive laws that hindered foreign investors.

To facilitate recovery, Syria is preparing new legislation designed to support investors and is initiating comprehensive reforms to remove bureaucratic obstacles and restrictive regulations. Alhamad identified Turkey as the closest and most critical partner for this process, stating, “We have excitement and a plan. We can both invest together, and Turkish investors can also invest within their own projects.”

Priority is being given to the rehabilitation of energy and transportation networks damaged during the conflict. The goal is to establish investment bridges between Turkish businesspeople and Syrian entrepreneurs once infrastructure deficiencies are addressed.
