Syria seeks UN action following Israeli strikes

Syria has called for urgent intervention from the United Nations Security Council following a series of Israeli military strikes on its territory. The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned an Israeli drone attack on a civilian vehicle in the town of Beit Jinn, west of Damascus, which resulted in several injuries. Damascus characterized the strike as a violation of Syrian sovereignty and international law.

These incidents follow recent Israeli airstrikes targeting the infrastructure of the Abu al-Duhur airbase in the Idlib province. While the Israeli military maintains that its targets represent direct threats to its forces operating in the area, Syrian officials warn that continued strikes will escalate regional instability and threaten civilian safety.

Regional tensions remain high following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024. Israel has recently moved into the demilitarized buffer zone and other areas, including Mount Hermon, citing the failure of the 1974 disengagement agreement.
