Homs bus shooting kills seven in Syria

A shooting attack on a bus at the Masyaf Bridge in Syria’s Homs province killed at least seven people and wounded four others on Wednesday, September 30. The victims, reported to be members of the Alawite minority, included engineers and workers from a private company, specifically Al-Mateen Company, as well as an employee of the Syrian Electricity Company.

Armed assailants opened fire on the vehicle as it traveled near the al-Houla area. The attackers fled the scene immediately following the incident, and no group has yet claimed responsibility. Local authorities and security forces have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators.

The attack occurred amid heightened security instability in Syria following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024. On the same day, reports also emerged of a gas pipeline explosion near a major power station in the vicinity of Damascus, further complicating the country's energy and security situation.
