Syria warns UN of escalating Middle East conflict amid Israeli strikes

Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, has warned that the Middle East is approaching a broader conflict. Speaking before the UN Security Council, Olabi accused Israel of conducting airstrikes and incursions into Syrian territory that undermine regional stability and efforts to establish security.

Olabi specifically cited eight separate airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur airbase and the presence of Israeli forces on Mount Hermon as violations of international law. He stated that these actions contradict international support for Syria’s security sector reforms and its efforts to combat terrorism and manage sensitive nuclear and chemical legacies.

In a related development, local media reported that Israeli forces conducted artillery strikes near Beit Djin in southern Syria, approximately 10 kilometers from the border. While the Israel Defense Forces have not officially confirmed the recent strikes, reports indicate that the area has been targeted multiple times in recent days.
