Syrian authorities arrest cell leader after security deaths in Daraa

Syrian security forces have arrested Walid al-Fallah, a leader of a cell involved in the deaths of three internal security personnel in Daraa province. The fatalities occurred during an operation in the town of Al-Sanamein aimed at arresting a fugitive and dismantling an Islamic State (IS) cell.

Interior ministry spokesman Noureddine al-Baba stated that the operation resulted in the arrest of five individuals and succeeded in dismantling criminal cells linked to IS that were coordinating with one another. While IS was territorially defeated in Syria years ago, the group maintains sleeper cells that periodically launch attacks against government forces, particularly in desert regions and the south.

Following the clashes, security forces imposed a curfew in Al-Sanamein to search for remaining suspects, though the security cordon has since been lifted. Authorities have indicated that the pursuit of all involved individuals will continue.
