Syrian Democratic Forces to dissolve and integrate into state institutions
Mazloum Abdi, leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced the formal dissolution of the group and its complete integration into Syrian state institutions. During a press conference in Damascus, Abdi stated that the SDF, which served as the Syrian face of the YPG, has completed its mission and will transition from a military force to a role focused on peace and reconstruction.
The dissolution includes the group's autonomous administration and all affiliated military and civil structures. This move follows an agreement reached in January with Syrian transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa. As part of the integration process, SDF forces are being incorporated into the brigades of the Syrian Army.
In conjunction with this political shift, President al-Sharaa has issued decrees to secure Kurdish national rights. These measures recognize Kurdish identity and the Kurdish language as integral components of the unified Syrian national identity, guaranteeing rights to Kurdish-language education and cultural expression.
