Syrian forces break up two ISIS cells in Aleppo

Syrian internal security forces and the General Intelligence Directorate carried out a joint operation in Aleppo and its countryside, detaining two ISIS cells. The first cell, composed of three members, had earlier attempted to assassinate a security guard and target a defense ministry official, as well as trying to plant explosive devices. The second cell, with four members, had conducted several killings and was planning attacks on security personnel and army members.

During the raids, authorities seized a cache that included raw explosive materials, improvised explosive devices, body‑armor plates, light and medium machine guns, pistols and sound‑suppressors. No casualties were reported among the security forces. The detained operatives were linked to the area known as the “Aleppo province” of the Islamic State.

The operation was presented by Ministry of Interior spokesperson Nur al‑Din al‑Baba as part of ongoing efforts to thwart terrorist activities and restore security across Syria.
