Syria-Russia memorandum implementation reviewed at Latakia airport
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani conducted a field tour of Latakia International Airport on September 18 to monitor the implementation of a memorandum of understanding signed with Russia on August 9.
The agreement outlines a transition of certain facilities to Syrian civilian management. This includes Khmeimim airport and the fourth commercial berth at Tartus port. Under the terms, military facilities will be redefined and converted into joint training and qualification centers for both nations.
Al-Shibani was accompanied by senior military leaders, including Chief of the General Staff Major General Ali al-Naasan and commanders of the Air Force, Naval Forces, and Military Intelligence. The delegation met with Russian officials to review progress and coordinate technical requirements. The memorandum mandates that the reorganization and transition process be completed within a three-month timeframe.
