Syrian intelligence foils alleged terrorist plot against Homs refinery

Syrian security authorities announced on Sunday, November 1, 2026, that they have thwarted a terrorist plot targeting the Homs oil refinery in central Syria. According to a source in the General Intelligence Service cited by the official news agency SANA, the operation was intercepted, though specific details regarding the nature of the plot, the perpetrators, or the method of prevention were not immediately disclosed.

The Homs refinery is one of Syria’s two primary oil refining facilities, alongside the Banias refinery in Tartus. Both sites are critical for providing essential fuel derivatives, such as gasoline, diesel, and kerosene, to the domestic market.

This announcement follows a series of recent security incidents involving energy infrastructure in Syria. In mid-October, a fuel transport line between Banias and Homs was targeted in an act of sabotage intended for theft. Additionally, authorities reported a gas export line explosion in the Al-Arbidi area of the Hasakah countryside and previous power plant outages caused by gas line explosions in the Damascus countryside.
