Syrian Ministry of Education tests candidates for Kurdish language teaching roles

The Syrian Ministry of Education has conducted written examinations to select teachers for Kurdish language instruction. The testing took place at the Institute of Fine, Plastic, and Applied Arts in Damascus, with 120 applicants participating to serve in the Damascus, Hama, and Raqqa governorates.

Ismet Ramadan, Director of the Educational Curriculum Development Department, stated that the exam consisted of 50 questions covering essential linguistic skills, including conversation, reading, writing, listening, and grammar. This written test serves as the first stage of the selection process; successful candidates will proceed to oral interviews before final selection.

In Damascus, the Directorate of Education has designated six schools for Kurdish language instruction, located in the Dummar and Rukn al-Din areas, catering to both male and female students. In primary stages, the language will be taught through enrichment classes and activities, while specific preparatory schools have also been identified for instruction.

The recruitment initiative follows executive instructions related to Decree No. 13 of 2026, which allows for the study of the Kurdish language in public and private schools within regions where there is a significant Kurdish population.
