Syrian People's Assembly holds ministerial hearings

The Syrian People's Assembly has scheduled a series of hearing sessions with government ministers to address critical national issues. On Monday, the Assembly held a session with Minister of Education Mohammad Abdul Rahman Turko. The hearing involved approximately 500 questions and observations organized into 11 thematic axes, prepared by the Standing Committee for Education.

Additionally, the Assembly approved a hearing with Minister of Energy Mohammad al-Bashir, scheduled for Thursday, September 17. This session will investigate the recent surge in petroleum derivative prices, which saw diesel costs rise by approximately 40 percent. The price hike follows protests in several provinces. The Ministry of Energy has attributed these increases to rising global procurement costs, higher transportation and insurance fees, and reduced local refining capacity due to maintenance at the Baniyas refinery.

In other legislative matters, the Assembly discussed its 2027 budget and the resignation of member Mudhar Hamdan, which results in the lifting of his parliamentary immunity.
