Syrian President Ahmad al‑Shar dismisses rumors of Syrian troops entering Lebanon

Syrian President Ahmad al‑Shar told a gathering of Damascus officials that reports of any Syrian military intervention or entry into Lebanon are unfounded. He emphasized that claims of a Syrian move into Lebanon are “false” and not based on any real facts. Al‑Shar added that the issue of demarcating the border with Lebanon is not a priority at present, noting that Lebanon is dealing with a severe internal displacement crisis affecting about 1.5 million people.

The comments were made during a meeting with more than 70 dignitaries from the Rif region, where the president also discussed other regional files. Media reports linked the statements to broader speculation about possible Syrian action against Hezbollah, citing earlier French agency reports that the United States has pressured Syria to act and remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting Syria could be urged to target Hezbollah.

The denials come amid ongoing Israeli strikes in Lebanon and direct negotiations between Lebanese and Israeli officials, which Hezbollah opposes.
