Syrian President Al‑Joulani Says Syria Will Not Intervene Militarily in Lebanon

Interim Syrian President Abu Muhammad al‑Joulani (also known as Ahmed al‑Charaa) announced that Syria has no plans to launch a military intervention in Lebanon. He said Damascus is working with the Lebanese government on broader solutions that would bring stability to the neighboring country and warned that any chaos in Lebanon would have a direct impact on Syria.

Al‑Joulani emphasized that Syria is avoiding confrontation with Israel and is pursuing a multilateral security agreement with the Israeli entity. He added that a successful security pact could pave the way for a comprehensive peace while preserving Syria’s claim to the occupied Golan plateau. The president also noted that lifting economic sanctions would be ineffective unless Syria is removed from the terrorism‑support list.

Additional points included slow implementation of the Kurdish agreement, improving relations with Iraq, and ongoing negotiations with Russia over the future of Russian military bases in Syria. The remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that al‑Joulani could confront Hezbollah more effectively than Israel.
