Syrian representative claims economy is beginning to recover
Ibrahim Albi, Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, stated before the UN Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs that the Syrian economy has begun a recovery process and is working to regain its vitality. Speaking during discussions on poverty eradication and developmental issues, Albi emphasized that the current priority is to translate recent political and diplomatic successes into tangible economic results that improve living conditions and create job opportunities.
Albi acknowledged that the path to full recovery remains long, noting that the effects of decades of mismanagement and years of war cannot be overcome overnight. He highlighted Syria’s potential for growth through its geographic location, natural resources, and human capital.
To support this transition, the Syrian representative called for expanded international cooperation and investment. He specifically noted the importance of rehabilitating infrastructure and clearing landmines and war remnants to allow residents to return to their homes and farms, thereby supporting food security and agricultural development.
